Our House - Update

14.8.18

As people already know, Calum and I bought a house last November - it was a bit of a rush to get in and settled before Christmas but I'm loving how our little updates are coming along! We already feel settled in our home already - I love being able to say we have a home.

The livingroom and dining room were decorated before we moved in. We wanted a grey theme so we picked a lovely Graham and Brown wallpaper for our fireplace wall and we kept it white on the other 3 walls. Most of our furniture was from Ikea and our sofa and snuggle seat are from Next - I can't believe how comfy they are! The room is exactly how we wanted it, but I would like to get a few more art prints up on the wall. We also still need to get a new carpet for the room (it's huge) but for now we have a very large shaggy rug from Dunelm to keep our feet cosy.

Our bedroom was also completed before we moved in - all white of course. Luckily, the flooring is brand new laminate so we are not going to change that as it adds some warmth into the room. Luckily, we had all our furniture such as our bed and dressing table before we moved in as they came from my house. We did have to buy to bedside cabinets and a large dresser for all our clothes. We picked the Hemnes range for all our furniture, I like the idea that I can vamp up the room just by changing the knobs on the drawers! We also have a walk in cupboard in this room which currently houses random items - but I think we will be looking to get this kitted out with some shelves eventually.

We have had time to change up our driveway and front garden too with thanks to my Dad. The back garden is kind of bugging me a little bit - it's a bit of a mess and I want to get rid of the slabs as soon as we can as they are very uneven and horrible looking! We are planning to monoblock the area from our back door to our shed, then the rest of the garden will be grass and plants. I really want to make a seating area with garden lights above so we can enjoy the cool evenings outside or while we have dinner.

Our spare bedroom has just been decorated - we decided to keep this a blank canvas so again, everything is white. Even though we have barely touched this room, we did have time to get the two walk in cupboards revamped as the last owner's did not utilise the space inside them properly. We literally ripped everything out of them and we created a lovely walk in his and her wardrobe with lights, and the other is now our linen cupboard which has much more shelves. We are currently going to use this space as a guest room / office area - but if and when we decide to have a child, this will eventually be their space.

If you like geometric patterns, then you will love the wallpaper we picked for our hallway and staircase! Calum wanted it to be all grey but as this area doesn't get much light, I wanted to add a pop of colour in. We saw a beautiful geometric wallpaper in B&Q but unfortunately they were out of stock. So we ended up going to B&M which had lots of rolls and in different colours! I'm so pleased with it and it looks totally different to other people's hallways too. We do still need to get the flooring sorted though. We have an attic hatch at the top of our staircase but we had never been in the attic at that point. I managed to find a company who made our attic hatch bigger and installed some Ramsay ladders in - and to be honest, I haven't been out the attic since! Unfortunately, the last owners left a lot of things they no longer wanted in the attic, which was a pain for us to clear out. It's partially floored just now and has a window, so we may get this all floored off eventually and made into another room.

When we have the money, we are planning to rip out the entire kitchen and replace it with lovely white units with a wooden or marble worktop - I genuinely can't wait for that day to come! The owner's of the house before us have literally tiled the whole bathroom from floor to ceiling which makes the room feel really small - we plan to get rid of all the tiles and have wall panels around the bath area and just paint the other walls. We may add a shelf in to keep the bath bombs and other bits and bobs too.

Have you got a house project on the go?
